Weekend Randomness

Happy Friday everyone!  What a long week!  I have been ready for the weekend since Monday even though I have to work on Saturday which stinks royally.  Yuck :/  But looking at these three smiling faces always makes it worth it.  This picture was taken a couple of Sundays ago before the Bears game.  I wish you guys knew how hard it is to get them all three sitting still long enough for a good picture.  It's ones like these that make me laugh though :)  Priceless!  So I just keep snapping these shots because you never know what you are going to get.  (And I have no clue what my youngest was looking at if you are wondering).

I'm thinking about unplugging at some point in the next few days.  Ideally it would be starting today, but as the idea has just come to me it isn't going to happen that way.  I'm thinking that I could find the time to write up a few reviews and schedule them for next week, and then just back away from the computer and internet for a bit.  I find myself browsing the internet and talking on Twitter for WAY too many hours in the day.  I have guests coming for Thanksgiving (including my sister...yay!) and I really, really need my house to at least be presentable.  Maybe even clean.  I have high hopes...but I also have three children who don't seem to know what the word clean means.  And maybe this will allow for some extra reading time which I can always use :)  Less computer time and more books sounds like a good plan of action to me!  So there is my goal for the next two days:  write up a few reviews, maybe an e-book post, and then step away from the computer for awhile which will allow for me to come back feeling refreshed.

In other reading news, I'm also planning on participating in Thankfully Reading Weekend next week which will be my only exception to the computer ban.  Obviously I'm going to want to jump on Twitter a few times during the weekend and share what I'm reading.  I think that is the whole point, isn't it??  It should be lots of fun.  I'm not planning out what I want to read or how much...instead I'll be playing it by ear and just reading as much as I can.  Besides I'm going to want to spend lots of time with my family because I don't get to see them enough as it is.  It is going to be so nice to have everyone together!  That's enough out of me for today.  I think I'll go work on those reviews I want to write.  May I wish you all a very early Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Really Random Tuesday: It-Along

Really Random Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Suko and let's us share basically anything that we want to :)

The Stand. It beat me. Or I should really say that I gave up after less than 100 pages. Yikes! I just couldn't get into it so I set it aside for other books. And then more books. Before I knew it the read-a-long was over and I hadn't really even begun. Oops! So I decided to return it to the library and try again another day. I mean it is a HUGE book. I can try again later, right???

But who am I to give up on Stephen King after one read-a-long?? Instead I'm diving head first into ANOTHER read-a-long and for a book that scares the living daylights out of me. Ummm...just look at that picture :/ I hate clowns! I'm absolutely, positively certain that this one will probably give me nightmares but I just HAVE to try it. Kinda like I really, really, really want to read The Shining (and every other book that King has written) at some point but I'm terrified. So this book may hang out in my freezer while I sleep....and I'm only halfway kidding. But I'm throwing in my hat and am going to participate. Baby steps to picking this one up from the library. And then baby steps to cracking the book open. I is scared... :)

Really Random Tuesday

Really Random Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Suko at Suko's Notebook, and is a fun way to share whatever randomness is on your mind!

Who heard that the Nebula Award nominees were announced???? And who else instantly ran to their library website to put holds on??? I bet you can guess if I did or not :) And then the Agatha Award nominees came out. Even though I've never really checked this award out, I had to see the list of nominees. And then the Bram Stoker nominees were announced. I LOVE this week! I'm seriously in list/award heaven right now and my current library holds list proves it! I'm not quite as interested in the nominees for either the Bram Stoker or Agatha Award but it is still fun to check them out and see what was listed. But the Nebula nominees are kinda like the Edgar nominees....I want to read them all! I'm nuts. I know.

In other randomness, there's a meme that has been floating around the blogsphere like CRAZY lately. Seriously, it's everywhere. And the lovely Lisa from Books, Lists, Life tagged me. I usually don't participate in these because I'm lazy (pure and simple) but I thought I would this time. After all, I just have to answer questions :)

1. Could you eat the same thing for lunch every day? What would it be?

Yep, a chopped chicken salad from the Italian restaurant that I used to work at. In fact, I'm pretty sure that I ate it every day when I was pregnant with my daughter. Maybe that is why she only wants to eat vegetables half of the time.

2. How many library books do you have checked out right now?

Do I have to answer this one??? (It's kind of embarrassing) But with my books and everything the kids have checked out including books and movies, we have about 70 items. Yikes!

3. Do you feel strongly about specific music? or more of a music in general type person?

Not really. I like to listen to whatever fits my mood at the time. And my favorite cd ever is the Dirty Dancing soundtrack. Seriously.

4. What is your favorite brick and morter retail store?

My used book store. Or Dunkin Doughnuts. Does that count??

5. What is your favorite online store?

I don't really shop online except for Amazon. I'm weird like that.

6. What is your favorite moment of heartstopping romantic tension? (Book, movie, music, tv, real life, art, anywhere.)

I love a good romantic movie. Favorites are Dirty Dancing, The Notebook, and 27 Dresses. But I always enjoy a good romance as well.

7. What is the first book you remember reading?

I have SUCH a bad memory! I can remember reading The Boxcar Children over and over but before that I'm not sure. (I'm trying to get my oldest to try these by the way :)

8. Are you creative in any way? How so?

Not really...

9. Not counting your family, pets, and vital personal documents/pictures, what one thing would you save in a fire?

I have an angel keepsake that I got from my grandparents that I would to try to save.

10. What is your favorite type of vacation (museums, beach, cabin, mountains, theme parks)?

Anywhere where I actually get to relax a bit. We usually do waterparks which are always fun but stressful!

11. What is the most surprising or unexpected thing you've done in the last 12 months?

Hmm...I don't know. I wish I had a good answer to this one though!

If you haven't been tagged already, then consider yourself tagged if your reading this. Seriously! I would love to read your answers to these questions (even if I'm too lazy to make up my own questions. LOL!)

Really Random Tuesday - Readathon Fun

My apologies for being so absent from the bloggy world lately! I haven't been my normal commenting self whatsoever and I have been HORRIBLE at responding to comments on my own blog. Bad Sam!!! But seriously, this week may be just as bad as I have a ton going on at work. Yuck! But on to the fun things for this week :)

I'm signing up to join in on a week long readathon. It is being hosted by The True Book Addict and all it requires is reading, reading, and reading all week long. I've been saying for awhile now that I need to just relax and read more and this is going to be my excuse to do just that. I've got tons of books from the library to choose from along with piles of review books and my own as well. And my goal is to get through a couple of them this week. So I may not be commenting or blogging that much this week but I will definitely be reading!

As for what I'm going to be reading, I'm going to start off with A Gentleman Never Tells by Amelia Grey. This is a review book that I have been wanting to read for awhile now. I just finished reading Vanished in the Night by Eileen Carr. It was a good read and I should be posting a review soon. Other than that, I'm not sure what I will read next but I'll definitely keep you updated. I'm off to begin some reading.....hope you all have a wonderful week!

Thanks to Suko who hosts Really Random Tuesday at her blog!

Really Random Tuesday (February in Review)

Really Random Tuesday is hosted by Suko at Suko's Notebook.

February was a GREAT month of reading for me! I was able to finish 6 books which is amazing for me. Especially since this was such a short month and I'm not the fastest reader :) This month I finished the following:
  • Feed by Mira Grant (best book that I have read this year by far!!)
  • Stray by Rachel Vincent (a reread)
  • Merely Magic by Patricia Rice
  • Rogue Oracle by Alayna Williams
  • B is for Burglar by Sue Grafton
  • Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (I finally finished this one!)
My favorite book by far this month was obviously Feed by Mira Grant :) I just cannot say enough positive things about this book. Read it already! I didn't dislike any books this month although my least favorite was Merely Magic. I haven't reviewed it yet as I wanted to post my thoughts closer to the release date but it ended up just being an okay read for me.

In other random news, my youngest is now walking all over the place. He isn't the steadiest on his feet but it is fun to watch. And now that I've gotten over the initial sadness of him growing so fast, it is exciting to see how fast he is changing and growing.

Bookishly speaking, I'm currently reading Senseless by Mary Burton. This is a book that was sent to me for review that I never got to. I'm glad that I picked it up though because it is just what I am in the mood for. I've just started it but it has been a nice, suspenseful read so far. My oldest and I have just begun to read Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume. This is a book that is a bit above his reading level (he is in 2nd grade) but it is perfect for us to read together. I'm looking forward to re-experiencing this childhood favorite with him.

That's about all of the randomness that I have for this Tuesday. Hope everyone has a great week!
