What a weird time this has been.  I was going to post last week but my anxiety was a bit high and I just wasn't feeling up to it.  I just want to say that I'm here if any of you need to talk.  I'm an introvert who already works from home - honestly not a ton in my day to day life has changed besides my kids are home with me all day instead of being in school.  And I'm still experiencing anxiety so I'm sure it is that much harder for many of you.  I don't want to go on and on but if you need me, know that I am here and will listen.

My reading mood has been all over the place because of all of this.  I managed to grab a nice stack of books from my local library before it closed.  I've got more than enough books on my own shelves as well as on my e-reader.  But my reading mood has still been all over (evidenced by the fact that I'm currently in the middle of four separate books.  I've only finished one book this week as my husband and I have been rewatching The Walking Dead instead.  I think we are up to season three currently.  I forgot how much I loved the earlier seasons and being able to binge watch a bunch of episodes at once.  I'm participating this week in the #laidbackreadathon that is being hosted on Instagram.  I'm hoping to finish at least three of the books that I'm currently in the middle of before the month ends.

Last week I finished the following book:

Shatter the Night by Emily Littlejohn is the 4th book in one of my favorite mystery series.  It was another solid and atmospheric addition to this series.  The author has a way with words that I just love so much!  I'll be sharing my full thoughts soon but check this series out if you haven't already!

I'm currently reading the following four books:

Promises in Death by J.D. Robb is one of my current print reads and the 2nd book that I'm reading for the #20backlistin2020 reading challenge that I'm participating in.  This series is comfort reading for me which is why I picked it up.

You and Me and Us by Alison Hammer is also one of my current print reads and is a review copy.  This book is really good so far but VERY emotional.  It keeps making me tear up so I have to take a break while reading it.

To Have and To Hoax by Martha Waters is one of my current e-reads and a review copy courtesy of NetGalley.  This has been a fun read so far and I've been enjoying it.  This one releases next month so I would love to finish it before that date.

What It Seems by Emily Bleeker is my 2nd read on my e-reader and is also courtesy of NetGalley.  I've just barely begun this one so I don't have much to report on it yet.

My goal this week is just to continue on and keep reading.  Reading is a stress reliever for me so I need to make sure that I'm making it a priority.  I would really, really love to finish three of these at least.  That would help finish out my reading month strong for sure!  I hope that you all are doing well.  Let me know what you are reading in the comments!

Happy Sunday!  Happy Reading!

  1. Sam, you're so sweet to offer to talk with people about their anxiety. I think all of us are a little out of our depth with the world right now. I'm having a hard time focusing on a book, though I've been rereading the JD Robb books and doing read/listens of them. They are suiting me for now. Taking solitary walks in my neighborhood and trying to not watch/read/listen to so much news. We're picking up some takeout from area restaurants that will be hit hard with the closing of their dining rooms. My husband is working from home now and that's an adjustment for both of us. Just wanted to say that I appreciate your posts. You and I agree on so many books. I'm noting the ones you listed for later. Take care. Stay safe and healthy. Big hugs to you!

  2. I switched to working from home this week and it has actually improved my anxiety so much. I have pretty significant social anxiety so being forced to social distance has been wonderful for my mental health. However, I know most people are the opposite and its been a real struggle.
I have had trouble getting into books lately as well. I've been playing video games and binging The Office instead.
    Stay healthy!

  3. Reading is usually my stress relief but at the moment I just can’t seem to focus. Your offer of support is very kind, especially when you are so anxious yourself. Like you my day to day life won’t change much, except the kids will be home but as teens they will mostly amuse themselves.

Wishing you a great reading week, be well!

  4. I can see how JD Robb would be comfort reading. I haven't read one of her books for a long time but I am not sure why

Hope you have as good a week as it is possible to have given everything going on in the world.

  5. I's definitely a crazy time right now. Don't feel bad for having some anxiety with other people having it worse. Your hard is your hard and nothing takes away from that. We don't have to prove we deserve our feelings. My day hasn't changed all that much either especially since we already homeschool! It has been a bit weird having my husband working from home every day and having our usual outings canceled so we are getting stir crazy at times. You've got a fabulous selection of books going! I love Nora Roberts but have somehow never read JD Robb. I really should! Have a great week!

  7. I joked with my husband the other night that I cannot relate to my fellow introverts who are so excited to be shut in--because suddenly I have no alone time at all. Well, except my short commute to and from work, which doesn't count. Ha! I can totally relate to the anxiety. It's been weighing on me as well. I hope you and your family stay safe and well.
