Read at least 5 books that fit somewhere within the Once Upon a Time III criteria. They might all be fantasy, or folklore, or fairy tales, or mythology…or your five books might be a combination from the four genres.
I'm pretty sure I can handle 5 books although now I'm thinking that I am already going to have to change my reading list for the Spring Reading Thing. Go figure! Carl, the host, doesn't require a list that you plan to read other than he suggests making a pool of books that I can choose from. Here is what I have so far:
- Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr
- The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale
- Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale ( I will read something by this author for this challenge)
- Briar Rose by Jane Yolen
- The Wood Wife by Terri Windling
- The Little Country by Charles de Lint
- Sorcery and Cecilia by Caroline Stevermer
Okay, that is what I have come up with on my own and with thanks to Eva's suggestions. I am completely out of my realm so any other ideas of "great or fun" books that fit this genre let me know. Comment away and I will add them to my pool of books!
you don't need suggestions.. just look at all the other lists! lol..
ReplyDeleteYou are going to enjoy this challenge!
Hope you enjoy this challenge Sam. Seems out of my realm too although it would have been fun to join and try out some stuff I may not normally read. HOwever, I already have too many challenges that I'm not doing so well on already. lol.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely going to join as well as I had a lot of fun last year. I've heard such great things about Shannon Hale's books and Briar Rose.
ReplyDeleteWon't it be fun to share in this together? I'm looking forward to expanding my knowledge of Sci-fi and fantasy, which needs a lot of expansion!
ReplyDeleteit sounds like a fun challenge, i'm tempted to join up too.
ReplyDeletehave fun reading!

Briar Rose, The Goose Girl and The Wood Wife are all excellent books. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteWhat an enjoyable list!
ReplyDeleteThere are some great books there, to be sure. Not sure if you are a fan of Neil Gaiman or not, but I would certainly suggest Stardust, Neverwhere, and his short story collections Smoke and Mirrors and Fragile Things. American Gods is a great big rollicking dark road novel of American folklore and the old world gods that is certainly worth diving into. Wood Wife is a great book. Charles de Lint's books are also generally really well written and worth reading.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are joining in. Hope whatever you read is enjoyable for you.
Charles de Lint is one of my favorite authors. In fact, I read The Little Country for a group about 4 years ago. It was the single book that started me down the road of fantasy...and as you can tell by my blog, it's a true love of mine now!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you decided to join in. Carl's challenges are always so much fun.
Oh...and I have Briar Rose and The Wood Wife on my list this year!! It will be fun reading you reviews!
ReplyDeleteWicked Lovely is SUCH a good story! I really need to read the "sequel" Ink Exchange though.
ReplyDeleteI love Charles de Lint. I have 27 books on my list, you're most welcome to steal some of mine if you like :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, reading everyone else's lists is a great way to get suggestions.
I read The Goose Girl for last year's challenge and really enjoyed it, but just finished Book of a Thousand Days and LOVED it! Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteDesLily- I will definitely be checking out everyone's lists. I was looking more for what everyone had already read and loved but thanks!
ReplyDeleteDar- I've joined way too many challenges so I understand how you feel :)
Trish- I've heard so many good things about Shannon Hale that I am going to make a point of reading at least one of her books for this challenge. I'll keep a look out for your list :)
Bellezza- Yes, it will be fun and I am looking forward to adding a bunch of books to my TBR list!
Naida- You should join...it is going to be fun.
Nymeth- Thanks! I'm looking forward to these and maybe I will get to all of them :)
Robin- Thanks!
Carl- I have to admit that I haven't read anything by Gaiman but I think that I will use this challenge to give him a try. Thanks for the suggestions and I will add them to my list of possibilities.
Stephanie- I got the de Lint suggestion from Eva and it sounds so good! Glad to hear that you enjoyed it as well :)
Ladytink- I'm SO looking forward to Wicked Lovely and already have it checked out from the library. It will probably be my first book for this challenge.
Maree- I am most definitely going to check your list out. Thanks :)
Stephanie- Glad to hear it...I am looking forward to giving a Shannon Hale a try!
I joined this one too even though I don't read a lot of fantasy. It's just too good of a challenge to pass up though! :)
ReplyDeleteHaven't read any of the books from your pool but I'm determined to read a Charles De Lint for the challenge.
Iliana- So glad to hear that you joined in on the fun! I am determined to read something by him as well so we will have to compare notes when we are finished :)
