The Sweetest Chase by Sharla Lovelace (thoughts)

Summary from Goodreads:

"Photographer Quinn Parker is getting married in a month, and she’s almost happy about it. Even though her mother is planning the whole wedding. Even though she’s secretly had the hots for Simon Chase forever. But he’s her best friend’s brother and her coworker…off-limits even if she were single. So she’s marrying the man who should be her perfect match—and that’s that.

Simon Chase’s life revolves around his family’s storm-chasing business. The meteorologist of the bunch, he’d rather be out in the weather than reporting it—especially if Quinn Parker is along to photograph the run. He’s been hiding his crush on her for a long time, and it’s only intensified. But she’s marrying someone else—and that’s that.

Or is it? When a Chase family wedding sets the stage for body temperatures to rise and the pressure of Quinn’s impending wedding to build, a new reality breaks. Quinn and Simon discover their unrequited affections have been mutual all along. When the gathering storm of their attraction finally reaches its peak, will it leave their lives in shambles? Or will they find shelter in each other?"

My Thoughts:

Sigh!  I adored this book and am left wondering why I don't read more contemporary romances just like this.  When I read the above summary of this book I was instantly intrigued and knew that I wanted to read it.  A romance featuring individuals who are storm chasers for a living and have their own reality show?  That is definitely not something I had ever read before so how could I possibly resist?  I couldn't and right now I can tell you that I'm really glad that I followed my instincts with this book.  The book itself was a fast read that I found myself immersed in.  I can already tell you that this is a book that I will reread because I just enjoyed it so much.  Don't you love when that happens?  When you find a book that just fits your reading mood so perfectly and in a way that makes you want to experience it over and over again.  This book was like that for me which made me love it even more.

One of the things that I loved so much about this book was the two main characters and the chemistry between them.  If you read the above summary then you know that the author based this book on a very difficult to make work premise with one of the main characters already being in a committed relationship.  I figured that this was either going to work for me or it wasn't and fortunately it did.  I have such a weakness for romances where the main characters struggle with their feelings for one another and don't just instantly fall madly in love.  It all feels so much more realistic to me when the relationship takes time to develop and grow.  Quinn has had a crush on Simon for a long time but never believed that a relationship with him was possible so she moved on with her life and is engaged to be married to man that she genuinely cares about.  Does she actually love her fiancee?  I would say no after reading this one but the important part of the book is that she doesn't know that.  Simon has also always had feelings for Quinn but never was willing to act on them until now.  All of a sudden both Simon and Quinn are realizing the feelings that they have for one another are more serious than either thought and this brings about some serious struggles for them both.  I loved it!  I loved watching them try to work out their feelings for one another, and I especially loved the anticipation that built for me as the reader hoping for their happy ever after.  I wanted them to realize their feelings for one another before it was too late!  I was just rooting for them in general and I loved every minute of it.

Overall, I just really loved this book from beginning to end.  My one complaint with this book was that I just wasn't ready to see it end.  Ha!  I loved all of the characters in this book so much that I wanted more.  More Simon and Quinn and more of all of those secondary characters that I was enjoying as well.  The Chase brothers are all so hot!!!  I'm super pumped because there will be more books based on the other brothers that I can look forward to.  Actually this is the second book in this series so I will be going back to the first book as soon as possible.  Also, I NEED more books like this in my life so if you have any recommendations please share.  I can easily recommend this one to other fellow romance readers.  Recommended!!

Bottom Line:  A romance that just swept me away.  I want more!

  2. I do like the idea of them being storm chasers. It's nothing I would likely ever do, but can see the thrill of it and would be willing to live through it vicariously. I am glad you enjoyed this one, Samantha! It sounds fun!

  3. Okay! I will try it then! I don't read that much contemporary romance either, and I'd happily read more -- I just haven't happened to get a lot of recommendations of contemporary books. Adding this author to my list!
