Once Upon a Time Challenge

I'm sooooooo excited! Carl at Stainless Steel Droppings is hosting the 5th annual Once Upon a Time Challenge. I've participated in this challenge for the past couple of years and absolutely loved it each time! And that banner....look at that banner! I had to have it on my blog just because it is so gorgeous :)

So there are lots of different options to choose from when it comes to amounts of books to read for the challenge or what types of books you want to read. Carl isn't picky and for this challenge the reader can choose between fantasy, mythology, folklore, or fairytales. And the whole point of the challenge is to have fun (while adding to your wishlist like crazy if your name is Sam). Seriously, I don't know how any of you resist this challenge because I honestly can't.

Anywhoo, I've decided to go with Quest the First which is five books in any of the categories listed above. I read more and more fantasy each year so this shouldn't be a problem whatsoever. In fact, I'm going to include a pool of books that I would like to choose from...although more than likely I'll completely change my mind and pick something different up.

Here are just a few of my choices:

1. Prospero Lost by L. Jagi Lamplighter
2. Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale
3. Un Lun Dun by China Mieville
4. Indigo Springs by A.M. Dellamonica
5. Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier
6. Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones

Just looking at these books gets me excited about this challenge and I have so many other reads that are on my wishlist just waiting to be read. I can't wait to begin!

  1. Oh, I read The Book of a Thousand Days for OUAT challenge a few years back and loved it (although I pretty much love anything Shannon Hale writes)!

  2. I love those banners, and your book choices! I'm waiting to make a list until I've seen all the other people's reading choices. Once Upon a Time book lists are my fave.

  3. I love the art work for this challenge. Good luck, Sam, although it doesn't sound like you'll need it. I did this challenge last year, and it was great fun.

  4. Those are some beautiful book covers. I've read some Shannon Hale in the past and they are always a treat. And she seems to be a delightful person as well. Thank you so much for joining in the challenge this year. I hope you have a blast.

  5. He seems to be a master of designing reading challenges...and buttons! Have fun with it.

  6. Looks like you have some great reading ahead! I love this challenge too. Once Upon a Time is the first challenge I ever joined, as a matter of fact. Can't imagine going without it!

  7. I just love Carl's challenges! They are so fun. Enjoy reading your books. I haven't read any of those so I'll be looking forward to your reviews :)

  8. that's a good group of books! I hope you enjoy them.. i am looking forward to your review on The Book of a Thousand Days!

  9. You should DEFINITELY read Daughter of the Forest as soon as possible! It's so good! Just be sure you have the next book to start as soon as you finish!

  10. The Book of a Thousand Days was really good. Love Shannon Hale! Just recently read Daughter of the Forest and really loved it! Howl's Moving Castle is pretty much great, too. Love anything by the author, though. Enjoy your reading!

  11. Thanks for the heads up on the challenge Sam. I must join too.
Happy reading, youve got some great picks. I have a Shannon Hale book on my shelves as well.
    The banner is so pretty.

  12. This is the very first time I'm participating though I've seen it for years. Good luck with you list!

  13. Good luck Sam! I always look forward to seeing the artwork for this challenge. It's always so unique and gorgeous!
