Bout of Books Read-a-thon 11 (Signing Up and Goals Post)

The Bout of Books Read-a-thon is back and with perfect timing as I seem to be struggling through a small reading slump.  I'm hoping that a week focused purely on reading will help me through it.  Unfortunately I have a lot of other things going on this week, because not only does school start up but the fall sports season does as well.  Chaos, I tell you!  Ha.  Anyways, here is what the organizers of the read-a-thon have to say about it:

"The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 18th and runs through Sunday, August 24th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 11 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. - From the Bout of Books team"

I have SO, SO many books that I currently would like to be reading....enough that it makes my head hurt just thinking about it.  So I won't.  Instead, for this read-a-thon I am going to focus on finishing some of the books that I am currently in the middle of.  Why I am in the middle of so many books is beyond me but there you go.  Here are the books that I am hoping to finish:

If I manage to finish the majority of these then I will be a very happy girl.  I think having so many books going at once is one of the reasons that I am not getting much reading done.  I also have other books on the go (mainly on my ipad) that I haven't finished yet so I just may read one of those too.  Other goals include participating in at least one Twitter chat and visiting lots of other read-a-thon participants.  Are you participating in this read-a-thon?  If you are, then share what you are hoping to read!  I will definitely stop by to cheer you on.

Happy Reading!

  1. Enjoy the read-a-thon, I hope you get to finished those books! The read-a-thon sounds like fun, I wish I had more time to do it. I read about 150 pages today to finish up a review book though, so I did feel accomplished in that...lol.
    Happy weekend!

  2. I've been meaning to read Jim Butcher, but my library doesn't have the first book in the Dresden Files. Would you say it's necessary to start with the first?
Also, this is a great idea. I have a number of books I'm in the middle of that I should read for the read-a-thon. None of them sound too exciting at the moment though.
    Happy reading!

  5. Good luck with the readathon! I'm only in the middle of a few books right now, but I've been where you are (I think six was my worst), so I know the feeling of being pulled too many directions by your books. I won't be doing the readathon (family vacation coupled with a huge work project I had to bring with me) but I hope you get through all of your books.

  6. Getting Life sounds really intense! I hope it's good! Good luck on all of your goals. I'm pretty excited about a read a thon. I'm hoping to free up my lunch time so I have an extra hour or so of reading time a day! :)

  7. I'm always in the middle of a bunch of books! I started a Robert R. McCammon called Speaks the Nightbird. Wonderfully written and it has a very intruiging story line, however, it is 816 pages and I'm listening on Audible. Killing me!

I just finished my first Jim Butcher book. Absolutely love his writing and I can't wait to read them all!

    Good luck finishing these!

  8. I was wondering if I'd have time to do Bout of Books then I realized my hubby will be out of town this week. Without him around, the tv will be off most of the time and I'll get so much more reading done! Good luck with your goals!

  9. I've been wanting to read Jim Butcher for a really long time, but I can't get the books where I live. Shame. Anyway, have fun and I hope you finish your books!

  10. Being in the middle of a bunch of books and not feeling like I'm progressing with them is pretty stressful to me so I think your goal sounds perfect! Good Luck!

  11. Happy Bout of Books, Sam! I definitely think having too many books going at once sometimes affects my enjoyment of them all, even if they're all great reads. Hope you have a great readathon and accomplish your goals!

  13. I do exactly the same as you, I start reading loads of different books at the same time then it takes me a while to finish them all. Good luck and happy reading :)

  14. I have The Night Visitor on my Kindle waiting to be read. I am hoping it's a quick read (somehow I ended up on a ton of tours for next month--and I'm behind on my reading).

Love Jim Butcher! The Hillier book sounds like it will be good. I hope you are enjoying it.

  15. I would love to hear what you think of the books you are reading. One of my colleagues swears by Jim Butcher and I am keen to get another person's take on it.

Best of luck for the read-a-thon, and I hope it does help get you out of your reading slump.

    Happy reading!

  16. I'm really bad for reading multiple books at the same time so I can understand wanting to use this opportunity to get some of them finished. Hope you have a successful reading week!
