R.I.P. VIII Challenge (It's Here!!!)

It is officially the best beginning to a week ever because Carl's R.I.P. VIII Challenge is here!!  I am SO, SO excited and feel like I have been planning for this for weeks.  Maybe because I have.  I've been adding potentials reads for this challenge to my TBR list on Goodreads for weeks now.  I have big plans for lots of scary reading in the next couple of months.  And I see a few library visits in my very near future!  Of course I will be culling some books off of my own shelves that will fit in with this challenge as well.  This is always my favorite time of the year when the weather begins to change and the urge to read those creepier books sets in.  I plan to embrace this and read to my heart's content all of the thrillers, mysteries, and horror reads that I can find!

I'm signing up for Peril the First which only requires you to read four books.  I'm hoping to read many, many more than that but it is a good start!  I've already signed up for the group read of The Historian (which I just need to dig off of my shelves) and I would love to get back to It by Stephen King which I started last year but didn't finish.  What other books am I considering you might ask??  Only all of these...

Because I'm sure these two will have a high creepy factor to them.

Two books from previous R.I.P. lists that STILL haven't been read (but that will change this year).

Thrillers from authors that I've loved previously.

Gothic mysteries?  Ummm...YES!!

More creepy possibilities...

Books that I plan on grabbing from the library...

And finally a few from my own shelves :)

I could obviously keep going but I'm going to show a little bit of restraint and stop here.  Don't worry because I also plan on sharing a library loot post with all R.I.P. inspired reads AND a wishlist/radar post with creepy reads!  I've got plans I tell you....creepy reading plans that is.  By the way, I'm starting early on this challenge because I can't wait any longer.  So....what creepy reads are you planning on reading?  C'mon you know you want to share (and add to my never-ending TBR list)!

  4. Oh, I almost bought that John Harwood to read this year but decided to wait on it. I've liked the books I've read of his so far though! And I can't wait to reread The Historian. I almost didn't sign up because it's such a chunkster but I'm sure I can fit it around all of my other reads. Enjoy the season!

  7. That's a great list, Samantha. I've got a few on my shelves as well and might pick them up. Erin Kelly for example.
I've never read a Mary Sterwart but I hear she's very good. I'm so looking forward to start reading.

  9. Oh my gosh, looking at so many of these covers make me shiver with expectation. Since I didn't get to Joyland for my Summer Reading List (although technically it is still summer here) I should add it to my RIP list.

The Shirley Jackson stories are always a good choice. RIP events introduced me to her work and I'm most thankful for that.

    The Harwood book looks great!

  11. So many books! I wanted to join the group read too, but decided that for this event I'll read books that are already on my shelf, so not this time. But good luck to you!

  14. Get your creep on!
Happy spooky reading. I'll be looking forward to your reviews. I must confess that I've read The Night Strangers and I was slightly disappointed even though I do like the author so I'll wait to see what you think.

  15. Very interesting group of books. Some are definitely more creepy than I usually read. I will be interested to see your review of Joyland, especially. Also the John Dickson Carr.

  16. Wow you have some great reads picked out. I loved The Night Strangers. I also have Joyland on audio which I must get to. Maybe I'll see how you like it first. Lol. Good luck with your challenge!

  17. That's a great list! I haven't read any apart from the group read, The Historian, which I absolutely loved. Good luck with the challenge!

  18. I'm doing this challenge, too! Posting about it annnnnyy day now. LOL. I have Joyland on my list too.. but wow you are ambitious! I thought about joining the read along considering I have The Historian on my bookshelf, but I've read quite a few long books lately and I kind of need a break and want to read some shorter books. Sounds like a total cop out, I know..

    Good luck and have fun!
