Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by Eva and Alessandra that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post any time during the week-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!
I went to the library today to return a few books (Call of the Highland Moon, Circus of the Damned, and Imitation in Death) that I finished. I had to browse the shelves for a bit though and came out as happy as a kid in a candy store :) Here is what I picked up this week:
A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray- I've been wanting to read this one for awhile now as I've heard lots of good things. Plus, it'll fit a few of the challenges I'm in which is an added bonus. This is the 1st one in the series though, right?
Heartstopper by Joy Fielding- I read Charley's Web last year and really enjoyed it so I'm looking forward to this one. I was in the mood for a good thriller too which is why I grabbed it.
In The Land of Invisible Women by Qanta A. Ahmed, MD- This has been all over the blogsphere and I was SO excited to see it at the library. I just had to scoop it up :)
In The Woods by Tana French- Another book that I've been wanting to read for awhile. Can you guys see why I was so excited when I came home from the library?
The Butcher of Beverly Hills by Jennifer Colt- I picked this one up on a whim. It was in the mystery section and looked good so I'll give it a try.
That's it for me this week. One too many books probably but who cares? I'm excited to read them which is all that matters :P What did you get at the library this week?
I really want to read the book by Dr. Ahmed, and I've heard only good things about French's book. It won awards I believe. Looks like you've got some exciting reading there. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteHi Sam,
ReplyDeleteI'm new reader at your blog. Great and Terrible Beauty is on my huge tbr. Interested in hearing what you think about it later.
Wow--looks like a lot of really great books. I've heard good things about The Land of Invisible Women. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI really liked Heartstopper. I listened it on audio last year and it was good. I loved Ms. Fielding's Whispers and Lies. That was an excellent book!
ReplyDeleteI just finished In the Woods earlier this month. It took me awhile to get into it, but once I did I was glued. I just picked up The Likeness, the second in the series from the library earlier this week. Looks like you have some great selections!
I love it when I find books I've been dying to read at the library. It really makes my day!
ReplyDeleteI brought home A Great and Terrible Beauty too! Yes, it is 1st in the series. Rebel Angel is next followed by The Sweet Far Thing..
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed A Great and Terrible Beauty a lot-I read it during a read-a-thon-but I haven't read the rest of the series!
ReplyDeleteYou got some good books there. A Great and Terrible Beauty is good and the other two in the trilogy are even better. I loved Heartstopper by Joy Fielding. It was good too. I have Land of Invisible Women on my shelf still.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your books. It's snowing here again so I'm heading out to the library tomorrow instead.
Sandra- Thanks for the information on French's books. I'll have to check out what awards French has won for my Book Awards challenge. How exciting!
ReplyDeleteSusan- Libba Bray's book has been on my TBR list for a long time now. I was so excited when I walked into the YA section and saw it. Thanks for stopping by!
Trish- I'm really excited to read In the Land of Invisible Women. I've heard nothing but good things as well :)
Kristie- I've only read one book by Fielding but really enjoyed it. I'll add Whispers and Lies to my TBR list. Thanks!
Michelle- I love finding books that I'm excited to read too! Just makes me giddy :)
ReplyDeleteNise- Thanks for the info on Bray's books. I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts once you've read it as well.
Eva- I'm glad to hear you enjoyed Bray's book. It really does sound good so I'm excited to read it.
Dar- I feel like it snows here every day. I might actually be sick of snow before winter is through. I'll look forward to hearing about what you pick up from the library :)
Tana French is soooo good. I read both of her books last fall and enjoyed them so much that she's now in my "automatic read" category.
ReplyDeleteSFP- That is great to hear! I'm really excited to read her book and hopefully I'll be able to get to it soon :)
ReplyDeleteI loved A Great and Terrible Beauty and even enjoyed the sequel Rebel Angels but the last book which closed the trilogy was one of the worst reads of 2008. I HATED how that series ended. Still... if I knew the ending before I started reading the series I woudl have still read the first book. It was great. I might have thought twice about reading beyond that.
ReplyDeleteStrlady- Interesting! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the first book though and hopefully I will like it as well.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great time at the library! Hope you enjoy In the Woods - it was one of my favorites last year. The sequel is great too.
ReplyDeletegreat loot! I liked The Land of Invisible Women. I have heard good things about A Great and Terrible Beauty.
ReplyDeletehappy reading :o)

ReplyDeleteNaida- Your review of the book by Dr. Ahmed is one of the reasons that I had to pick it up when I saw it :)
ReplyDeleteSam -- I have an award for you. Can you come over to my blog and check it out?
ReplyDeleteThat'd be great.

Jan (in Edmonds)
Jan- Thank you so much! I'm very excited :)
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to read one of Joy Fielding's books! Too many books...not enough time.
ReplyDeleteJKaye- I couldn't agree more. I don't think that I could read every book that I want to even if I lived to be 200. There are just too many great books!
