Library Loot- April 15th

Library Loot is a weekly event co-hosted by myself and Alessandra that encourages bloggers to share the books they’ve checked out from the library. If you’d like to participate, just write up your post-feel free to steal the button-and link it using the Mr. Linky any time during the week. And of course check out what other participants are getting from their libraries!

I can't seem to stop checking out books. This is serious as my stack of library books is currently out of control. I was going to tell you guys that this was two weeks worth of books so I didn't look and sound so insane...but I'm thinking that it isn't going to quite work when you check out my list. I guess all that matters is that I am happy in my library book filled world, and I am sure that the librarians are happy with me :)

Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters- It seems like everyone has read this cozy mystery series besides me. I couldn't resist when I spotted this one on the shelves.

Fault Lines by Nancy Huston- I spotted this one on the shelf of new books and then I noticed that it was the winner of The Prix Femina...haven't a clue what award that is but it sounds good :)

Touch the Dark by Karen Chance- Another series that I have been wanting to begin for awhile now...I'm a series addict if you haven't noticed.

Who By Fire by Diana Spechler- I read Literary Feline's review of this and was sold instantly. And then the author was nice enough to email me offering to do an interview but I never saw the book at the library. I HAD to have this one so I took it home :)

Divided In Death by J.D. Robb- You all know how much I love this series...

The Ghost and Mrs. McClure by Alice Kimberly- I think the blame falls squarely on Ladytink's shoulders for liking this book and giving it a great review!

Love and Biology at the Center of the Universe by Jennie Shortridge- Haven't a clue where I heard about this one but it sounds good.

Sorcery and Cecelia or The Enchanted Chocolate Pot by Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stevermer- This is for the Once Upon a Time Challenge III

Deadly Night by Heather Graham- I've never read anything by this author but it sure looks good.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson- Seriously, do you even wonder why I snatched this one up?

Okay, after looking at my list I think that you should definitely consider this to be two weeks worth of books :) I might be embarrassed if you weren't all as library crazy as I am. Good thing, right? I need to get to reading....

  1. Sorcery and Cecilia is awesome! :) I think I'm one of the few who didn't really enjoy The Crocodile on the Sandbank. And Speak is a good book, but it was quite difficult for me to read.

Love the cover of Love and Biology at the Center of the Universe!

  3. I gotta know, Sam--how many of these are returned unread or do you recheck them out or you read them all in the alloted time? Craziness!

  4. I've read several books that were awarded the Prix Femina, although not Fault Lines. They are always very good so I don't think you need to worry. Who By Fire is very good, I got a copy from Book Club Girl and listened to her interview. I'm very glad I did. Enjoy your new loot.

I always wind up taking out way too many, then returning most unread. *sigh*

  8. Eva- You are the reason I picked Sorcery and Cecilia up..I can't wait to read it :)

Booklineandsinker- Glad to hear that you enjoyed it. I was browsing at the library and couldn't resist this one.

Trish- I recheck some of them out...some get read and some go back untouched. It is an addiction :)

Sandra- This is the first I've heard of that award. I'll have to check out other books winning this award...thanks for the info!

Kara- I'm glad to hear that you enjoy that series...I'm dying to begin it.

Dar- LOL! I do that sometimes too although I usually try to read them all. It just doesn't always happen :)

Naida- Me too! I'm looking forward to all of these though :)

  9. I understand addiction--I have a ridiculous amount of unread books at my house and I still keep buying more (although I've been MUCH better this year).

  10. Trish- See that is me but without the buying part :) Except I buy books too but not as often...I'm better about it because it actually involved spending money!

  11. I just started my library copy of "Who By Fire" after receiving an email from the author, too. It's taking me a little time to adjust to the different voices (3 of them, I think, and no indication of which is which at the beginning of the chapter) but I'm liking it so far.

Bet my library stacks are taller than yours! LOL

  15. I picked up one of the books in the Elizabeth Peters series secondhanded but I haven't read any of them yet. Lol, I'll humbly take the blame because that whole series is really, really good! Hope you enjoy your loot!

  16. Ali- No way..my stacks are bigger :) I can't wait to hear your thoughts on Who By Fire!

JoAnn- It does have a great cover, doesn't it?

Mary- I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it when you get a chance to read it :)

Carolyn Jean- I get so excited about library books...I'm a nut like that :)

Ladytink- I can't wait to begin that series...I'm planning on picking it up as soon as I finish my current read!

  17. Who By Fire is good. Initially though, I was pretty annoyed with the characters to the point I wanted to throw the book at a wall. I understood why they were flawed but I was really having a hard time empathizing. Spechler is a fine writer though and I couldn't abandon the book because of the quality of her writing. Anyone who appreciates the technical aspects of writing will appreciate how she employs literary devices here. I enjoyed the alternate points of view and I didn't have a problem recognizing each speaker.

I'm hoping to interview her as well. I'm tied up at the moment though with a writing challenge.
