The Sunday Post #42 (Germs Edition)

"The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted here @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news~ A post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. See rules here: Sunday Post Meme"

It's Saturday afternoon here and I'm trying to soak up the quiet after a very hectic two weeks.  I missed last week's post as it was a very busy weekend and I just didn't get the chance to blog at all.  We had a softball fundraiser last Saturday night which was such a fun time but also a very busy one.  Monday morning my husband had shoulder surgery for the third time (and we are hoping the last).  The doctor had to do a lot more work  than we had hoped he would have to which means a longer recovery time.  By Tuesday evening, my daughter wasn't feeling well which meant a two hour trip to the doctor the next day.  Everything came back okay (she had been complaining about a sore throat) so I wasn't too worried.  Then yesterday she woke up with a fever on top of all of her other symptoms so back to the doctor we went.  Not only did she test positive for strep the 2nd go around but she also tested positive for influenza B.  Sigh....you can imagine my reaction to hearing all of that.  I've spent the morning cleaning and disinfecting the house in the hopes that my other two don't get sick as well.  My daughter is being quite the trooper though so hopefully she starts feeling better fast.

In between all of this, I've also been reading although at a slightly slower pace.  I've finished three books since my last reading update which I'm considering to be a success.  I actually finished nine books in January which is pretty amazing when I compare it to last year's reading pace.  I'm hoping that I can continue with this reading pace throughout the rest of the year.  It might not happen but I can sure try.  I've finished the following books in the past two weeks:

Death Below Stairs by Jennifer Ashley - I enjoyed this book so much and have already written up and shared my thoughts on it.  It was just as good as I had hoped it would be.  I'm really looking forward to reading the second book later on this year.  You can read my thoughts here if you are interested.

Look For Me by Lisa Gardner - This was my 2nd book by Gardner but certainly won't be my last!  I am becoming such a HUGE fan of this series.  I'm posting my thoughts on this one later this week but expect a lot of gushing.  I need to go back soon and read the beginning books to this series because I just couldn't put either of the books that I've read down.  So good!

Blue Monday by Nicci French - I finished this one in one day....that should tell you everything that you need to know.  I chose this one carefully as I started reading it the day of my husband's surgery.  It was the perfect book to keep me completely immersed and relaxed while I waited (it also kept my mind off of everything going on).  I am so very glad that I went back to the beginning of this series.  I'm eager to get my hands on the 2nd book soon.

I'm now currently reading the following books:

Look For Her by Emily Winslow is my current print read that I'm reading for an upcoming PICT Book Tour.  I'm over halfway through and really enjoying it although I didn't realize until I began that it is part of a series.  I'm hoping to finish it this weekend but if I do I will include it in next week's update.  On my Kindle, I next plan on reading Lost Girls by Angela Marsons.  This one has been on my e-reader for entirely too long.  I'm really looking forward to reading this one and continuing on with this series.  After these two books I think I will pick something from a different genre to give myself a change of pace.

New Additions:

I'm not going to lie - these aren't all of the books that I've gotten in the past two weeks but I will share the rest next week.  I have PLENTY of great books that I need to get on and start reading.  Emma Kavanagh has been an author that I've been wanting to try so I'm really looking forward to that one.  All four of these books though sound amazing so I'm pretty excited to read them all.  Seriously...this week I'm going to stay away from NetGalley.  I need to read some of the books I keep adding to my e-reader first.  So many good books....and just not enough time!

Plans for this weekend are pretty low-key.  I'm hoping to get some serious laundry done.  Lots of cleaning and disinfecting will continue in the hopes of keeping everyone else germ free.  I don't really have much else planned.  Ideally I would like to get some blog posts scheduled but we will see how it goes.  I'm planning on taking it easy and just focusing on taking care of my daughter and husband.  I do hope to get lots of reading time in here and there.  I also plan on watching the big game tomorrow although I don't really care who wins.  Other than all of that, not much else!  I'm off to get working on those laundry piles.

Happy Sunday and Happy Reading!

  1. First of all, sorry about your husband's surgery and your daughter's illness. Hope both are better soon. Sam, take care of yourself too. The caretaker gets run down and then the illness hops over to them. This flu season is brutal. We have been hibernating practically and I have almost bought stock in Purell. My husband's December heart surgery has made us paranoid about anything that will make him cough or sneeze.

Great, great bunch of books. So happy you enjoyed Blue Monday. The rest of that series is so good. And I'm excited about a new book from Charlie Donlea. Oh, truthfully, I'm excited about so many books. It's always the way, right? Hope your week goes very, very well.

  2. Sorry about your daughter's illness...and your husband's surgeries.

Your books look very tempting to me. I've been eager to get my hands on Look For Me...and I've loved all of the books in Nicci French's Freida Klein series. I have pre-ordered the final one: The Day of the Dead.

Enjoy your books and your week. Thanks for visiting my blog.

  3. Oh your poor daughter, I hope she starts to feel better soon and also hope your husband recovers quickly! Hopefully you can relax this Sunday after all the busy-ness of taking care of everyone and the house! I'm impressed you've gotten so much read despite everything going on. That's wonderful. Can't wait to read your reviews of your current reads.

  5. Ooh some awesome looking thrillers here! Look for Me and Look For her (hmm, that's funny) both look good. And death Below Stairs is going on my TBR because it sounds great! I haven't read a country house/ upstairs-downstairs kind of read in ages!

I like that rainy cover of The Missing Hours too.

Hoping your husband has a quick recovery and no problems, and that your daughter is feeling better too! This flu season has been awful!

    Have a great week!

  7. Hopefully this will be your husband's last surgery and recovery won't be too awful. And I'm sorry to hear your daughter had Strep Throat AND the flu. You've had a rough week! I'm impressed that you got any reading done. Hope this week is nice and eventless!

  9. How is your husband doing? I hope he is recovering well. How is everyone else doing? I feel for your daughter. I had strep last December and was miserable. And for her to have the flu on top of it . . . I can't imagine. I hope everyone, including you, are doing better now.

Sounds like you had a great reading month in January! I feel like I read a record number of books. It was a good month for books.

I hope you have a much better week this week!
