The Sunday Post #40 (All The Holds)

Happy Sunday!  It's a gloomy, cold winter morning here but I've got coffee and the 5th Harry Potter movie on which makes everything better.  It was a busy past week as we all returned to our normal routines.  Now having a three day weekend makes it all seem just a little bit better after returning to our normal full schedule.  I'm working tomorrow but only for as many hours as I feel like.  I'm really pushing to get the overtime hours in when and where I can.  I kind of slid off the exercising bandwagon last week.  I ran once (last Sunday) and then that was it.  It goes to show me that I will really need to focus on running/working out on the nights where the kids don't have practices even if those are the nights I usually work late.  I'm going to try and hit my three workouts this week by really buckling down and getting them in when I can.  Hold me accountable!

In reading news, I managed to finish two more books this week which means the Bout of Books read-a-thon was a success.  I didn't participate too much social media wise but I did read, read, read!  I could get behind reading two books every week if I could keep this up.  I went to the library yesterday and brought home five new library books thanks to all of my holds coming in at once.  This added to an already towering stack of books that I already had checked out.  I'm swimming in all of the books right now which makes it so hard to choose what to read next!  It's not a bad thing so I'm not complaining - I just haven't yet decided which one to start reading first as my new print read.  Last week though I finished the following books:

A Map of the Dark by Karen Ellis begins a new mystery series and I really loved it!  This was my 3rd book for #COYERWinterSwitch and it was such a great read.  I'm super excited that it is the first in what is planned to be a series as I really can't wait to read more!  I'll be writing up my thoughts on this one hopefully for this week since it just released this month.

Unnatural Exposure by Patricia Cornwell is the 8th book in this series which is an absolute favorite of mine.  I pulled this book off of my own shelves and it was a great choice as always.  This wasn't my favorite book in the series (I would probably only rate it 4 stars instead of 5) but it was still a really great read.  This series really has become a treat for me to read though!  I will also work on writing up my thoughts on this one soon.

I'm now currently reading the following:

A Whisper of Bones is my current Kindle read and one that I'm about 30% into so far.  As usual I'm starting smack dab in the middle of a series (apparently this is book #25) but that hasn't bothered me in the slightest.  I'm actually really intrigued already and excited to continue reading it later this afternoon.  No print read yet as I'm just not sure which library book to read next but I'm sure I will figure it out soon.

New Additions:

I'm most excited for It All Falls Down by Sheena Kamal as this is the sequel to a book that I loved last year.  I just cannot wait to begin reading it although it doesn't release until July so I'll try to wait awhile before I begin.  That review copy is courtesy of Edelweiss and the rest are from NetGalley.  See why I need the #COYER reading challenges so much?!?

Plans for today include a basketball game for the youngest and not much else.  The usual everyday Sunday things including laundry and reading.  I'm hoping to do a little meal prep for the week as I'm also trying to eat healthier.  I need to work on writing up reviews so that I'm not just writing posts on Sundays for the rest of the week.  It would be really nice to get ahead and maybe even have the entire month prepped ahead of time.  A girl can certainly dream!  I would also like to fit a run in if I have the chance later on.  I'm off to go clean the kitchen up so.....

Happy Sunday and Happy Reading!

  3. Really fun looking books you've got. All seems like ones I'd like. Do you do audiobooks at all? Just wondering. That's what keeps me going on my walking regimen - finding out what comes next.l A suggestion only. Have a good week!

    1. Kay - I do listen to audiobooks but mostly the Harry Potter ones (I'm such a HP nerd lol). I'm currently listening to the 4th one right now. I do listen when I run but it is just actually finding the time to run that I'm not doing so great at (says the person on the computer right now when she could be running instead). I'm hopeless :)

  4. I'm super interested in Map of the Dark. It looks so good. Good luck on COYER. I'm doing okay with it but not as well as I have in the past. Isn't it a reader's rule that all library holds come in at the same time?

    1. Barb - A Map in the Dark was really good - 4.5 stars good if that helps you pick it up :) I'm doing just okay w/COYER as well. I'm working on book 4 so I wouldn't say horrible but I definitely could be doing better. And yes, my library holds ALWAYS seem to come in at once!

  5. I have my eye on A Whisper of Bones and hope you enjoy it, Sam! Things are returning to normal around here as well. I signed Mouse up for a self-defense martial arts class that starts in a couple weeks. She's been wanting to try martial arts for about two years now, but finding a class that fits around my work schedule has been challenging. Hopefully this one will work out and she'll enjoy it. I know I told myself after this past fall I wasn't going to have her in more than two extracurricular activities at a time, but here we are. Your new books look really good. We're off to a birthday party this afternoon. I hope you have a great week, Sam!

    1. Wendy - I think that a self defense class is an awesome idea!!! I may have to look into one for at least my daughter at some point in the near future. I know what you mean about trying to limit activities but it is so hard when they want to do it all. I am definitely enjoying A Whisper of Bones so you might need to check it out - I'll let you know when I finish! Have a great week!

  6. I have to hold to my exercise schedule because if I do I get a book and a graphic novel a month as a treat. lol

    1. Kailana - That's actually a really great idea! I might have to try something similar in February since it feels like cheating to try it now in January :)

  8. I only ran twice last week, so I also fell off the exercise bandwagon. I blame the snow. Enjoy your new books. Have a great week!

    1. AJ - At least you ran one more time than I did! That's success in my book lol! I would like to blame the snow too but I have a treadmill so really there is no good excuse. Have a great week :)

  9. All the books sound so interesting! I'd have a hard time choosing what to read too. Hope you enjoy them all and looking forward to hearing your thoughts on them.

    1. Melody - I'm not the best at deciding what to read next on a good day. Add in a HUGE stack of library books that ALL sound amazing and I'm basically at a loss. I might just give up and have my husband pick for me - that's where I'm at currently :)

  10. Good job with bout of books! And, isn't it always the case that all holds always come in at once. You've got a great stack to look forward to. I'm curious about the Ellen Hart series. I can't remember hearing about that and here it is at #25 book!
