Divergent by Veronica Roth (thoughts)

Summary from Goodreads:

"In a future Chicago, 16-year-old Beatrice Prior must choose among five predetermined factions to define her identity for the rest of her life, a decision made more difficult when she discovers that she is an anomaly who does not fit into any one group, and that the society she lives in is not perfect after all."

My Thoughts:

Divergent is one of those books that is SO engrossing and SO amazingly good that when I closed the last page I wanted to start immediately back at the beginning. And I expected everyone else that had read it to have loved it just as much as I did because it was just that good. I've seen some criticism of the book but I can't honestly think of a thing that I would want differently when it comes to a book like this. It sucked me into the world that Beatrice (or Tris as she was also known) lived in, and I didn't want to leave. I didn't think about how realistic this book was or if it could happen....instead I just lived and breathed this world for a few short days. This is a book that I can't wait to recommend (I'm sending my copy to my sister for sure) and talk about with others. I loved it. And now I NEED to read Insurgent.....how am I supposed to wait until May??? Aack! I'm keeping my thoughts on this one short and sweet so I don't give anything about the book away. Just take my word for it...it is that good!

Enough gushing. Obviously, I just loved this book and I can't think of a bad thing to say. Highly, highly, highly recommended to just about everyone. Enough said :)

Bottom Line: 99.9% sure that this will be on my top 10 reads list for 2012. AMAZING.

Disclosure: I was sent a copy of this book from the publisher for review from a Shelf Awareness offer (I think). Embarrassingly enough, it was last year and this book has languished on my shelves this entire time. Thank goodness I finally picked it up.

  1. I've seen so many reviews of this book and I think yours has just tipped me over the edge into deciding to read it. I've been reluctant because I feel like there's sort of a glut on the market of dystopian YA, and it can be hard to sort out the wheat from the chaff. And I don't love this title or this cover and it's made me reluctant. No more! I've added it to my book list, I'm getting it next time I'm at the library.

  2. Agree agree!! I check to see if it's on the shelf every time I go to the library, it never is, or I'd read it again.

  8. Your review is so funny because I always feel that way when I finish an installment of a trilogy; i.e., how in the world am I supposed to wait? LOL

  15. Kimba88- Yay! Have you read Insurgent yet?? I'm holding off just because I know that I won't want to wait for the 3rd book to come out :)

Jenny- I'm with you on the amount of dystopian YA books that are out right now. This is one of the only ones that I have read so far (I haven't even read The Hunger Games yet) which is one of the reasons why I think I enjoyed it so much.

Lisa- I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Insurgent when you read it.

Literary Feline- I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Trish- LOL! I'm honestly not sure if you would like it or not. I really did but I also don't read a lot of books like this which really helps. I don't think that you do either so you might enjoy it too :)

Christine- Yay! I hope you love it too!

Kailana- It was SO over-hyped that I wasn't interested in reading it either when it first came out. I'm glad that I waited until now to give it a try!

Naida- I hope you do read it at some point!

Rhapsodyinbooks- I'm not very patient when it comes to waiting for books to be published :) I try to stay behind in series that I'm reading and love so I don't have to wait. It isn't always easy though :)

Blodeuedd- Let me know if you do end up reading it! I would love to hear your thoughts..

Thanks Suko- I hope you find the time to enjoy it as well!

Staci- I can't wait to hear what you think!!!

Darlene- Let me know when you read it so I can hear your thoughts!

Natalie- I think that this book would be really good on audio. I may reread it before I continue on with Insurgent and I could definitely try listening to it. Great suggestion!

Kat- Hope that you are able to get your hands on a copy. I've passed mine along to family or I would have sent it to you :)
