Library Loot- The R.I.P. Inspired Post

I LOVE this time of year...it just naturally puts me in the mood for reading :) And after joining the R.I.P. IV challenge, I just can't seem to stop checking out reads for the challenge. If you haven't joined in on the fun then you really should consider giving it a try. I've been adding to my TBR list like crazy and the challenge just started. So I've got a bunch of R.I.P. inspired reads to share with you today:

The Lunatic Cafe by Laurell K. Hamilton- This challenge is the perfect excuse for me to dip into this series again.

Marked by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast- I found this one as I was perusing other participants' lists and realized that it has been on my TBR list for awhile now. It sounds really good too!

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson- This book looks absolutely, positively spooky! I'm so excited to read it but a bit nervous too :)

Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr- I've checked this one out before and haven't had the chance to get to it yet but I will this time...I think.

The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry- Have you seen the reviews on this one?? It sounds sooo good and of course I snatched it up when I saw it on the shelves.

I was in seventh heaven when I got home from the library with all of these the other day. If you've read any of these or have another suggestion for a good gothic read then please share! In other reading news I am currently in the midst of two books: Witchling by Yasmine Galenorn which is going quite quickly and The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins. I'm just dipping into The Woman in White slowly but it pulling me in already. I can already tell that this is the perfect read for this time of year :) Happy Fall!

  3. I am reading the House of Night series. I like it, but don't love it. They are definitely easy reads though.

I have been seeing quite a few mentions aroudn of The Haunting of Hill House.

I have read The Lace Reader. I liked it, but again, didn't love it as much as most other people seem to.

  4. Hubby loves the Anita Blake series. He plowed through it before the Meredith Gentry. I loved Wicked Lovely.

  5. Oh I don't want it to be fall just yet (although I do agree that this time of year puts me in the mood for reading)!

I read another one of Jackson's books last year (can't remember the title right now) and it was spooky but not that scary, if that makes any sense. Oh and I loved The Lace Reader -- I hope you enjoy it too. Good luck with the challenge and enjoy your books!

  6. What a fun amount of loot! I love Wicked Lovely. :D And Haunting of Hill House was neat, although not as scary as I expected (I found We Have Always Lived in the Castle much creepier).

I read Marked during the very first read-a-thon, and it was a fun, fluffy read.

  7. That's the Jackson book I read too: We Have Always Lived in the Castle. (Thanks, Eva!)

  8. I soon to read Wicked Lovely it looks good. I'll be interested in your thoughts on Marked. I'm with Marg, I didn't care much for it.

I'll have to check out Hill House.

I was a big Anita Blake fan until it went all porn and no plot. Lunatic cafe is still in the good part of the series. I think is was about the time the Micah character showed up that it lost me.

Have fun with all your loot!

  9. I Sam! What great loot you got last week. We have a few of the House of Night books on our family bookshelf but no one has read them yet. Did you like the first book?

    I loved Wicked Lovely.

At first I was going to say I'm not at all familiar with The Lace Reader, but now I'm thinking it's ringing a bell. Perhaps I ought to look for it. It sounds like a well loved read.

  10. I love the early Anita Blake books, Marked was incredibly good (I plan on re-reading them since the next one is coming out soon), I recently read The Haunting of Hill House for the first time and though I didn't love it, I still thought it was worth reading, and I adored Wicked Lovely. Hope you enjoy all your reads!

  11. This time of year really gets me in the mood to read, too. And thanks for the reminder! I have quite a few of these books (Wicked Lovely, Marked, Lace Reader) on my shelves, too, and I forgot about them! They must go into the Peril Pool now!

  12. Suko- It sure is!!!

Staci- I've been craving some hot chocolate lately. And I'm really looking forward to both of the books that you mentioned.

Marg- You aren't the only one that has said that about the Cast series but hopefully I will feel a bit differently :)

Linda- I do plan on reading the Meredith Gentry series at some point but not until I've caught up more on the Anita blake series.

Avisannchild- Spooky but not too scary sounds right up my alley. I can be a wimp when it comes to scary things which is why I've never been able to read The Shining.

Eva- I've heard so many good things about Wicked Lovely and I'm chomping at the bit to read it!

Alyssa Kirk- I've heard mixed reviews and opinions on the Blake series as it progresses. I've decided just to give them a try and go from there.

Christine- I've had The Lace Reader on my TBR list but it was a recent blog tour that reminded me about it and made me want to pick it up RIGHT NOW :)

Ladytink- I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed these books...we have similar taste a lot of the time!

Andi- I just keep adding to my pool of possibilities as I read everyone else's reviews. It is neverending :)

  13. I would say there's no comparison between The Shining and We Have Always Lived in the Castle. I would never read The Shining either!

  14. Avisannchild- I have We Have Lived in the Castle in my R.I.P. pool but haven't grabbed it at the library yet. I've tried to read The Shining once but I didn't get too far :P

  15. The Lace Reader IS really good. After just finishing it I realized that author is going to be in Dallas next month, so I switched our book club pick so that we can read it together then go to the event. So excited! I hope you like it!
