The Sunday Salon- Harry Potter Week

This Sunday I'm knee deep in the magical world of Harry Potter. I keep asking myself how I haven't read these books before now. I'm on the fourth book now and caught up in the Triwizarding tournament. These books are such fun to read. I really didn't think that I would like these books. That's why I waited so long to read them. And now I don't think that I've rated any of them less than a 5/5 rating. Seriously, these are good books! It just goes to show me that I should read more books that are outside of my comfort zone. Do any of you hesitate to read books that are different then what you normally read?
On other news...I got my 1st ever review book in the mail. How exciting is that?!? I can't tell you the title yet though because my daughter is asleep on my lap. ;) So that's up next on my list to read. Plus I have a bunch of good books from the library. Don't you love it when you have a bunch of good books to read? I do. LOL! Happy Sunday to all of you and I'll be visiting your blogs soon.

  1. This was the only series where all three children - oldest is now 19 - read of the books.

I think that is pretty darn cool!

  2. Stick with the Potter because they just get better. I think you'll benefit from reading them as a single entity as you'll see better where the sixth one fits in. As a one off book it may not seem to work as well, but as part of the overarching story it's absolutely right. I've promised myself that over the summer when I have less time that's taken up by regular commitments I'm going to give myself a fortnight when I just sit down and read them straight through.

  5. I was resistant to the world of HP myself at first. One of my friends started to read them when there were first getting published and kept telling me I HAD to read them. I kept telling her that they were children's books and I was too old for them. That while I liked fantasy the whole thing did not appeal to me. Then one day I was in the library looking for a new audiobook for my long drive to work. There on the shelf was the first book in the HP series. I hesitated a moment then thought that I would get it, listen to it, then when I told my friend that I tried it and didn't like it (as I was so sure would be the case) I could get her to stop nagging me about it. I was instantly hooked. Its such an appealing story for people of all ages. I grudgingly had to tell my friend she was right that I loved the book and she has never let me live it down since.

  6. I'm glad you're liking Harry Potter. Had you seen the movies prior to reading them? It sounds like not. My own reading of them was stretched out over years and often done in slow marches, aloud, to my older daughter. (And sometimes quick marches.) I can't imagine sitting down and just plowing through them.

  8. April- You are just a step ahead of me with these books. I'll catch up soon.

Irish- I'm glad that I'm not the only one who didn't think that they would like them--I was really reluctant to try them as well. And now I can't put them down.

Debra- No I haven't seen the movies 1st. I've been waiting to read the books. What a neat experience to read these books with your daughter. Maybe I'll do the same when my kids are a bit older.

  11. I put off reading the Harry Potter books too because I wasn't sure I would like them. I couldn't be more wrong. It's a very enjoyable series, and I am glad you are enjoying them so much.

Congratulations on getting your first review book in the mail! I hope it's a good one!

  13. My husband and I have been reading the HP books since the beginning, both aloud to our oldest child and to ourselves. Years later, DH is reading the series now to our youngest child--and reading them again to himself. Only our daughter was never really into them, but perhaps she'll pick them up herself when she's older.
